Fairtrade is a labelling legislation known around the world. It is applied by the Fairtrade Labelling Organisations International or FLO. By signing up as a Fairtade member, it shows that the brand is using ingredients produced by farmers that are given a fair prices and better terms of trade for farmers in some the worlds poorest countries.
As much of the worlds coffee is grown and harvested in these countries, and much of the coffee you drink is made from coffee beans grown in these a countries, a brand with the Fairtrade logo ensures the consumer they are buying a product ethically.
What is Organic Coffee?
Organic coffee is means it's is grown and produced under conditions that don't use artificial chemicals, such as pesticides or herbicides.
To be certified organic in Australia, producers must undergo rigorous monitoring and recording of farming and production conditions to meet the criteria.
While products can be called organic without certification, the term certified organic can only be labelled on products they have actually gained certification.
